Wilman Lovegrass

Wilman Lovegrass is a warm-season perennial bunchgrass introduced from South Africa. It grows 3-5′ in height and forms tight, upright bunches. Wilman lovegrass is less invasive than most introduced grasses, although it can spread from areas it is planted to and limit plant diversity on very sandy soils in the South Texas Sand Sheet and Llano Uplift regions. Caution should be heeded when using it on areas where native plant diversity is desired. Wilman lovegrass is typically planted in mixtures with other introduced forage grasses, especially Kleingrass, and is often considered a filler grass to achieve rapid cover and prevent soil erosion in rangeland plantings. Wilman lovegrass is a palatable forage, but if grazed too closely and persistently it will decline in the years after planting if not allowed to periodically produce seed.

Planting: Plant in the spring at a rate of 1-2 lbs. pure live seed (PLS) per acre at 1/4 inch deep.
