Texoca Buffalograss

Texoka Buffalograss is a native, warm season perennial sod grass that rarely exceeds a foot in height.  Its dense foliage and broad adaptability make is a common component of range, reclamation, and residential seed mixes throughout Texas. It can provide good to excellent forage for livestock and is a key component of short- and mid-grass prairies across the state.

Buffalograss is one of the few truly native Texas turf grasses, and perhaps the only native sod grass. It’s contributions to native history include feeding massive, roaming herds of bison and providing sod for settler dwellings. It’s soft blue color, dense establishment, and hearty drought tolerance make it an ideal turf grass choice for much of the state, including South Texas. Care should be taken to provide enough water until the plant is established and can develop drought tolerance.  Texoka can be relatively slow to establish from seed, and in range seeding settings it is best planted with a variety of other native grasses and forbs.
