Hegari

Hegari is a short growing forage sorghum that is an original landrace from Africa brought to the United States prior to the Civil War. The specific strain used as the parent material for the hegari used today was selected in 1908. Compared to other landraces, it has more palatable stems and forage and the seeds are less bitter due to low tannin content. It is distinctly inferior in both yield and quality to modern BMR hybrids.
