LABLAB Bean

Lablab Bean

Lablab is an annual, warm season tropical legume that grows 3-4’ tall. It is grown for forage and soil improvement. Lablab bean is high protein forage for deer and is adapted to a wide range of soils and conditions. It should be planted in the spring, usually between March and April, depending on location.

Lablab is drought tolerant due to a deep tap root and can withstand heavy grazing after establishment. Deer relish this forage for its palatability and have shown preference to this plant in side by side comparisons with other common food plot species. Lablab forage can have as high as 38% crude protein.

sunn hemp

Sunn Hemp

Sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea L.) is a warm-season, annual legume that grows up to six feet tall. Until recently, the use of sunn hemp has been limited by the availability of seed. However, newer varieties (i.e. AU Golden and AU Darbin) have been bred that have the capability to produce seed in temperate climates. Sunn hemp is drought tolerant and tolerates moderately low soil pH, growing in soils with a pH between 5.0 and 8.4. It also tolerates low soil fertility, however, its productivity is enhanced in fertile soils.
